So what has happened in my go life for 2013?
I have continued to take two hour lessons with Yilun Yang on alternate Thursday mornings.
I had hoped to attend the New Jersey Open in February, but a cousin of my husband died and I didn’t feel it was right to leave my husband alone, so I decided not to participate.
I attended the U.S, Go Congress for the second year in a row after a two year absence in 2010 and 2011. It was the first time ever that I went an entire year with no tournaments between congresses. I enjoyed meeting up with old friends at the congress and spending time with the go community. I got certified by the AGA as a go teacher in their first teacher certification workshop. I haven’t done anything with the certification, but I’ve got it.
I’m still 9k AGA, and slightly weaker than my previous 9k rating.
I play very little go anymore except with my teacher, Mr. Yang.
I play only enough rated games to hold onto a rating on KGS, which wavers between 9k and 7k depending on my mood. My go definitely reflects my mood.
I think about quitting lessons, but so much of my identity is tied up in being a student of Yang, and also in being a go player. I find this ironic since I play very little go.
So what has happened in the rest of my life during 2013?
I’ve found a new passion. Actually I should say I have rediscovered an old passion. It is quilting. I hadn’t quilted for about 25 years, but I am doing a lot of it now, specifically English Paper Piecing using hexagons. I’m hoping that I can find the purpose in my life through fiber arts that I used to find through go. Perhaps I can become a part of the quilting community.
What does 2014 have in store for me?
I’ll continue with go lessons at least up through the U.S. Go Congress.
I’ll attend the Go Congress in mid town Manhattan. How could I miss that?
I’ll try to blog about my go activities once a week, but I might very well convert the main function of this blog to the story of my journey in the world of quilting, and the bigger world of fiber arts. There was a reason I didn’t choose a go related domain name when I started this blog. I used my own name because I suspected that I might some day write about something other than go.
